American Robin foraging for breakfast this morning in downtown Kitchener. I managed to catch the steps of locating and picking up a bit of food from the grass. One week from today the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame will induct its 27th class into our Hall. The induction will take place in front of the Hall of Fame in the Cambridge Centre at 1:00 p.m. and is open to the public. The event is free of charge

When I got home I saw the ripe bananas and thought aloud how a banana/blueberry/cranberry/walnut fruit muffin would be with coffee tomorrow morning. I just got my dried fruit supply from Bulk Barn. My back yard feeder has a new visitor this season. A Pileated Woodpecker has taken over the feeder and this bird the size of a crow can eat its weight in suet. So the flicker, bush tits and nut hatches have to wait in line or gather the crumbs below. This species of woodpecker is native to North America. The former Hespeler Town Hall was built in 1914 in the Beaux Arts style. The building, which still houses a firehall and the Hespeler Heritage Centre, also once included a police statio & jail along with municipal and other government offices. The town hall became redundant when Hespeler merged with Galt and Preston to form the City of Cambridge in 1973 but is still a prominent part of Hespeler Village. Sixty-four years ago today saw the Galt Terriers win the first ever Canadian senior hockey championship for Galt. The Terriers defeated the Winnipeg Moroons 5-1 in the fifth game of the Allan Cup Finals in only their second year of existence. On the way to the national championship the Terriers, led by captain Butch Martin and coached by Lloyd Roubell, won 19 of their final games. My latest visit to Azores Bakery for their most excellent mouthwatering Portuguese Custard Tarts still are a 10 plus in my books. The buttertarts are mighty fine also. My first time was when they were located on Warnock St for their crusty rolls and custard tarts. Decades of quality still can be found here. The hot take out has some tasty meals perfect for dinner tonite.

The Log Cabin. At one time this Hespeler Road Drive In Eatery was the place to be back in the 50 60's. Lots of us Cambridge folks have lots of good time memories here. The Youngs Family were famous for their Underdogs. Add your comments of how this iconic restaurant was part of your pastime.

The Canada Goose can get very territorial when it decides to take over the local real estate that includes sidewalks and front lawns. This fine specimen decided to set up house next to a lush grass lawn with his mean spirited wife that will chase you down the street if you should get in it's space. Don't let this relaxed look fool you or you'll be running full out to get away from that goose who bites first and honks later.
This goose needs some attitude adjustments.
