On this day in 1904 the greatest marathon runner ever from Galt and two time Olympian Cliff Bricker was born in St. George. Cliff was called the “Pride of Galt” and his running career accomplishments included a 1927 Canadian Marathon championship, a bronze medal in the British Empire Games and two top ten marathon finishes in the Olympic Games. He was fanatical in his training regime and every Saturday he would run from Queens Square in Galt through Preston and Blair and back. On Sunday he would walk the same course three times. Cliff is a member of the Waterloo Region Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. He passed away in 1980 at the age of 76.
