One of a number of great adaptive re-use projects in a former industrial area of West Galt, the Blacksmith Lofts occupy a late 19th-century factory.
The factory was originally used for the manufacture of forges and later furnaces. In its last years, it was occupied by Tiger Brand, which represented the last vestiges of the textile industry that was prevalent in Cambridge for over a century.
After sitting derelict for the better part of a decade, the old factory was converted into loft-style condos with many original features incorporated. The second photo is a shot I took before restoration, and you can see that the biggest exterior change was the addition of windows to lighten up the interiors.
