One of the pioneers in women’s athletics in this community was born in Galt on this date 113 years ago. Dorothy Kerr was an accomplished athlete at GCI in the 1920s winning numerous athletic honours. She was the catcher on the Galt Swastikas softball team that won the 1931 Ontario Championship. She was the founder of the Galt Skating Club in 1952 as well as being a moving force in establishing ladies curling at the Galt Curling Club a year later. After taking up golf at the age of 35 in 1947, when few women were allowed at the Galt County Club, Dorothy won the club championship several times in the 1950s. Her curling teams were a dominant force in Ontario in the 1960s and were the first winners of The Rose Bowl Trophy signifying Ontario Mixed Curling Championship. Dorothy passed away in 2013 just 6 months shy of her 101st birthday and shortly after being inducted into the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame. Read more…http://cambridgeshf.com/inductee/dorothy-kerr
