Today is the first Sunday in April and the Statford Swans are being released led to the Avon Pond by a Scottish Piper. Swans from other area county ponds are wintered in Stratford.
Paired Swan Pairs are called Penn and Cobb.

The birds are back! I live in downtown Kitchener, next door to a construction site. For the past several years, there had been an excavation pond on the site. This was in the time between when they took down the existing houses in about 2021 and Spring 2024 when the construction started. During the years of the pond, lots of birds lived in the area. Spotted this Red Tailed Hawk in the Cambridge(Galt) core close to the river and its adjacent trails. Many are surprised by the various birds of prey in the area. Public parking nearby Grand Avenue and Cedar Street

The Bald Eagles are starting to make appearances in larger numbers here near Pinehurst Paris and Oxford county. Here is a pair on a hydro tower that looked like they are enjoying the possibilities of raising a family.
The critters and farm chickens have a new nemesis to look out for. 2

No, this isn’t photo chopped. This is a cardinal “gynandromorph” an animal that exhibits both female and male sexual characteristics. As different sexes are differently coloured, each half of the bird is a different shade. Pelee Point is the best flyway to see them.
