Birding

This male Northern Cardinal was singing and singing. Another Cardinal on a nearby block answered. One would sing a song and then the other would sing a song. I don't understand Cardinal language, but I wonder if they were negotiating territory.

I've been told that birds sing in spring to claim their territory for a nest and raising young. We are definitely in mating/breeding season. To my human ear, it was just a lovely sound.

Northern Cardinal, male, singing in tree top, May 6 2025, 8:00 PM.
