The former St. James Anglican Church in Hespeler was built in 1893 by Lewis Kribs.
Kribs was a carpenter and contractor responsible for the construction of a number of local bridges and buildings, the most noteworthy being the former Knox Presbyterian Church in Galt. He owned a number of businesses in Hespeler over the years, including a sawmill and flour mill, and also served at varoius times as the village clerk, tax collector and reeve during the second half of the 19th century.
