The hockey teams called Hornets have been winning hockey championships beginning in 1931 with the Blair Hornets. Fourty-two years ago today, before a standing room only crowd at the Galt Arena, the Cambridge Hornets defeated the St. Boniface Mohawks 4-1 winning the Allan Cup in four straight games. The game featured a bench clearing brawl that resulted in 193 penalty minutes. The Hornets were the first team bearing the name Cambridge to win the national championship following amalgamation in 1973.They were inducted into the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
