The Chevrolet Camaro is one of few muscle cars of the '60s true gearheads would buy over a Mustang Boss 429. During its design and initial construction, the car was named Panther. The 1965 concept bore the Panther emblem and retained the name until just a few weeks before the car debuted. Chevy always intended to give its Mustang competitor a "C" name to conform to its Corvette, Chevelle, and Corvair models.

It became one of the most iconic muscle cars in America, but no one knew the Camaro name when it was introduced in 1966.
