While sipping coffee a new bird species came into view. At first thought it was a Red Headed Woodpecker but soon read and realized it was a rare Lewis Woodpecker. Only 10 feet away was racing up and down the pine and maple tree, stopping to pick out any tasty morsels left in the bark. Our first time after 40 years birding getting such a surprise. Both Cathy and I did a high five.
