Backyard bird feeding is a great way to attack many birds to winter feeding, however by doing it once, you should commit to feeding until at least till the late spring… those little creatures relay on a source of food during “hard times”. I have put seed out all year long. Yes, I get the squirrels but I have had many birds come and visit. The birds are back! I live in downtown Kitchener, next door to a construction site. For the past several years, there had been an excavation pond on the site. This was in the time between when they took down the existing houses in about 2021 and Spring 2024 when the construction started. During the years of the pond, lots of birds lived in the area.
