You may already know that RARE is twice the size of New York's Central Park. But did you know that an army of volunteers are out there every year growing fresh food for our local Food Banks? One of the best ways you can help is by buying vegetable seedlings for your own garden at their annual, one day only, Plant Sale and EcoMarket on Saturday May 10. 100% of the proceeds from the sale will go toward growing good food for local families in need.

JUNO-nominated Heather Bambrick is going to host Cambridge's First Jazz Festival next month. She is described as “Ella Fitzgerald meets Carol Burnett at a Newfoundland kitchen party,” Her music is so good that even people who don't like Jazz, really like it!! It's on Sunday, April 27th from 1pm to 7:30pm at the Tapestry Hall in the Gaslight District on Grand Avenue in Cambridge.

New York Times bestselling author Susanna Kearsley will be at the Old Post Office, a branch of the Cambridge Public Library, to read from her new novel The King's Messenger on Thursday, March 27th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Preregistration required at the library website. Diana Gabaldon wrote "I've loved every one of Susanna's books." Now that's high praise!

I first fell in love with Cambridge's parks on a truck route I drove in my teens. After leaving the South Cambridge Zellers store on a hot summer day I looked on my map for the first park northbound and found Soper, where I could eat my lunch in some shade.
