If you were an early resident of Galt, chances are you drove under this Birch Street Railroad Bridge that brought you to Water Street and would duck as you went under. Did your dad make you get out to lower the car antenna. Some bikers Taxis and pickups learned quickly not to try.

Central Presbyterian Church in Cambridge is a heritage treasure. Completed in 1882, it stands at 7 Queen’s Square, just above the Grand River in the Galt area. Photo was taken in 1906 as Central’s chime was installed — incorporating 10 bronze bells that were hoisted into an oak frame in the stone tower under the steeple. For more than 100 years, this chime has been played before services and to mark special occasions.

On May 22, 1878, the Empress of India, which had been launched in 1877 and was meant to be a pleasure steamboat on the Grand River, went over the dam at Blain's, resulting in eight fatalities. The accident was attributed to a combination of factors including a problem with the rudder, an increasingly swollen river, and overconfidence.

The Main Street Bridge in Cambridge, Ontario, was built in 1931 as a concrete bowstring arch bridge. It was a Depression-era public works project, funded in part by the Provincial government and designed by Archibald B. Crealock. The Lamb's Inn, in the historic village of Blair. The Inn was built as a stagecoach stop by John Lamb in 1837. Blair was perfectly situated between Galt and Preston while being adjacent to the Huron Road, which stretched from Guelph to Goderich. The former Hespeler Town Hall was built in 1914 in the Beaux Arts style. The building, which still houses a firehall and the Hespeler Heritage Centre, also once included a police statio & jail along with municipal and other government offices.
